Orchidism is a performance that explores the perspectives and love lives of orchids and bees. Using the voice and sound this meditation looks in a macro way at the markings and lures the orchid creates for bees. It reflects on species extinction in bees, on memory kept in the patterns of flowers, and how we might as homo sapiens become an orchidism. How do we translate for plants what they need to thrive? We share worlds with orchids, articulated in-between non-verbal and verbal expressions of desire.
Orchidism was first performed at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin in September 2018. It was then part of Liquid Architecture’s Why Listen to Plants exhibition cycle in December 2018. Currently it is being remade for a staging in the ORCHID HOUSE on September 17, 2022.
As part of my work with plant protagonists, Orchidism is an extension of Botanical Drift.
